Kumamoto Prefecture advances disaster aid with certificate closure and cooking safety checks

On August 5 the Toyono branch of Uki City in Kumamoto Prefecture stopped accepting applications for disaster‑damage certificates related to the 2024 Kumamoto earthquake. The city directed residents to photograph damage and follow the online instructions for future claims.

At the same time, Kumamoto Prefecture and the cities of Yatsushiro, Yatsushiro, and Yatsushiro are urging volunteers and organizations that provide cooked meals at evacuation sites to submit a “cooking‑check sheet” at least three days in advance. The form, first created after the 2016 Kumamoto quake to ensure hygiene and track food supplies, is now part of the prefecture’s disaster‑infection‑control guidelines and is referenced by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

These measures aim to streamline assistance, verify safety standards, and document aid for those displaced by the earthquake.
