Kumamoto Prefecture announces 60% tourism discount program
Kumamoto Prefecture has officially announced the ‘Kumamoto Fukko Oenwari’ (Kumamoto Reconstruction Support Discount) to stimulate tourism demand following the effects of the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake. The program offers up to a 60% discount on accommodation and travel costs.
Reservations are scheduled to begin on September 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The discount period applies to stays between October 1 and December 25, 2026. Subsidies are subject to budget limits and will end once the cap is reached. For single-night accommodation, the discount is capped at 20,000 yen per person. For travel packages including transportation, the cap increases to 30,000 yen for two or more nights, or 35,000 yen for multi-prefecture tours.
Discounts can be accessed through direct bookings with lodging facilities or via Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) such as Rakuten Travel, Jalan, Yahoo! Travel, and Ikyu.com. Existing reservations made before the official sale start date are not eligible for the discount, and travelers wishing to use the program may need to rebook, though availability and cancellation fees are not guaranteed.
