Kumamoto revitalization initiatives launched in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu
Various initiatives are underway to support Kumamoto Prefecture through tourism and regional revitalization. From October 7 to 27, 2026, Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin will host the ‘Kumamoto Mon x Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin’ event. The promotion features Kumamoto’s seasonal delicacies, including Yamaga chestnut sweets, horse meat croquettes, and local ramen, alongside art exhibitions and a panel display regarding the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake.
In a separate effort to support earthquake recovery, a large-scale Kumamon installation has been unveiled at JR Kokura Station in Kitakyushu. The 2.2-meter tall structure was crafted by station staff using 416 recycled paper roll cores from ticket machines. The installation, which includes supportive messages from local schools and businesses, will remain on display until late December as part of a joint tourism project between JR Kyushu and Kumamoto Prefecture.
