Hokka Hokka Tei menu expansions and Kumamoto relief efforts
Overview
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the Japanese bento chain Hokka Hokka Tei has announced a series of menu renewals and new seasonal offerings. Beginning September 1, the company will renew its signature ‘Nori Bento’ series by adding a tuna mayonnaise topping. A new ‘Tuna Mayonnaise Rice Napolitan Bento’ will also be introduced. To mark the autumn season, the chain plans to release a ‘Tsukimi Tendon’ on September 1, followed by a ‘Matsutake Series’ featuring Matsutake Bento and Matsutake Gozen starting September 4. These items will be available in various Japanese regions, including Kanto, Tokai, Kansai, and Kyushu. In a separate initiative, Hokka Hokka Tei has launched the ‘Kumamoto Support! Kyushu Umakamon Bento’ to assist in recovery efforts following the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake. For every 790 yen bento sold, the company will donate 40 yen to earthquake relief funds. This campaign is part of broader relief efforts involving various organizations and local governments, such as Kitchen Misakimaru providing weekly meals to evacuees in Beppu. Recovery efforts following the earthquake have expanded across the public and private sectors. In Kyoto, the city has provided support by dispatching disaster relief nurses, offering free municipal housing to displaced persons, and extending tax filing deadlines for residents of affected areas. Kyoto has also established donation boxes at city offices and subway stations for the Japanese Red Cross Society. On the business front, the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, Japan (SMRJ) has established a ‘Recovery Support Advisor System’ to provide free expert assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises in Kumamoto. Additionally, the city of Iga will host a ‘Yorisoi Festa’ on September 6 to raise funds and awareness. Private sector support continues to grow.
