Kumamoto schools implement recovery measures following Reiwa 8 earthquake

Following the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake, educational institutions in Kumamoto Prefecture are implementing recovery measures to prepare for the upcoming school term.

Kumamoto National College of Technology has announced a change to its staff recruitment examination schedule. Due to the earthquake's impact, the second stage of the recruitment exam has been rescheduled to September 4, 2026. The institution will contact applicants individually via email regarding further details.

In Uto City, Prefectural Uto Junior and Senior High School is working to restore facilities after the July earthquake, which registered a seismic intensity of 6-upper. Cracks in pillars and collapsed staircases have rendered certain buildings off-limits. To accommodate students unable to attend in person due to damaged homes or disrupted transportation, the school is preparing online learning options for the new semester starting September 1.
