Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang‑Boadi Orders July Sanitation Crackdown
Kumasi’s Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori Agyemang‑Boadi, announced a city‑wide sanitation enforcement drive to begin in July. Joint teams of municipal officials, police and soldiers will sweep neighbourhoods, arresting offenders and bringing them to court the same day. About 26 people have already been prosecuted for sanitation violations.
The initiative is linked to flood prevention. The assembly has intensified dredging of major waterways, including the Atafoa, Asokore Mampong and the Akwatia Line‑WAEC stretch, ahead of an expected period of above‑normal rainfall in southern Ghana. Officials aim to clear blockages, improve drainage and reduce the risk of rain‑induced flooding in the city’s low‑lying areas.
