Kumköy, Antalya to get new public beach after demolition of old kiosks

In the Aksu district of Antalya, Turkey, approximately 600 beachfront kiosks that had stood for about 60 years were dismantled in a pre‑dawn operation in November 2024. The site, designated a protected area by a 2021 presidential decree, is slated for a 325,000 m² public beach project led by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The redevelopment will include facilities such as toilets and showers, and will be coordinated with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change to safeguard the nesting grounds of the endangered caretta‑caretta turtles.

Local resident Levent Dedeoğlu welcomed the plan, saying, "Güzel olur, buranın ihtiyacı var… Bu sahilin yapılması ile güzel bir imkan ve tesise kavuşulacak," and praised the municipality’s involvement. Project planning and budgeting are expected to begin this year, with construction targeted for completion by the following year.
