Kuwait and Bahrain Intercept Missile and Drone Attacks
Kuwait's armed forces reported that its air‑defence system intercepted hostile missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles on the morning of 8 July, with audible explosions attributed to the interceptions. The Kuwait Army urged citizens to follow safety instructions as debris could fall in populated areas.
In Bahrain, sirens sounded in Manama later that day after a series of explosions, and authorities called on the public to remain calm and seek shelter. Bahrain’s interior ministry and Qatar’s foreign ministry both issued high‑security alerts, advising residents to stay indoors.
The attacks come amid heightened Gulf tensions following recent U.S. strikes on Iran and statements from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) pledging retaliation for those strikes. The IRGC earlier claimed to have targeted U.S. facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait with missiles and drones, though the exact origin of the projectiles intercepted on 8 July was not confirmed.
