Kuwait bids for re-election to UN Human Rights Council
Kuwait has announced its candidacy for re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2027–2029 term. During a speech to the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee, Diplomatic Attaché Omar Al-Saeed stated that the bid reaffirms Kuwait’s commitment to maintaining an active and constructive role within the Council.
Al-Saeed emphasized that the Council’s operations should be guided by principles of universality, objectivity, and impartiality. He called for an end to politicization and double standards to ensure the Council maintains its credibility in protecting human rights and upholding human dignity.
Reflecting on its current 2024–2026 membership, Kuwait highlighted its participation in interactive dialogues and the Universal Periodic Review mechanism.
