Iran Strikes Hit Kuwait Oil, Power and Desalination Facilities

Iran launched a wave of missile and drone attacks on Kuwait on 18 July 2026, targeting oil production sites, power‑generation units and seawater‑desalination plants. The strikes caused fires and severe material damage; several Kuwaiti firefighters and oil‑sector workers were injured, and generators were shut down as a precaution. Kuwait’s airspace was closed and all flights from Kuwait International Airport were suspended, with the airport temporarily shut down for safety. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attacks were retaliation for a week‑long series of U.S. strikes on Iranian military and civilian targets, claiming U.S. troops were killed at a support centre in Arifjan and that it had hit U.S. bases in Bahrain and Jordan. The Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the attacks as war crimes, while oil markets reacted sharply, with Brent crude climbing about 13 % in a week. Similar missile and drone waves also hit Bahrain and Jordan, prompting air‑raid sirens and defensive interceptions.
