Kuwait intercepts record $490 million drug shipment

Kuwaiti authorities have announced the seizure of the largest drug shipment in the country's history, with an estimated market value of approximately 150 million Kuwaiti dinars (roughly 490 million USD). The operation resulted in the confiscation of nearly five tons of raw Lyrica powder and approximately four million ready-to-use capsules.

In addition to the substances, security forces discovered a complete manufacturing facility for the psychoactive drug, equipped with machinery for filling and partitioning capsules. Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef stated that combating narcotics remains a top priority for the ministry, emphasizing a coordinated approach between health and social services to manage prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

To support recovery efforts, the ministry has established a specialized wing for the treatment and rehabilitation of women using modern techniques. Officials also noted that following the implementation of new anti-drug legislation, drug trafficking crimes have decreased by 33 percent and drug use crimes have dropped by 20 percent over an eight-month period.
