Russian missile strike on Kyiv kills two, injures several
On the night of 15‑16 July 2026 Russian ballistic missiles hit Ukraine’s capital Kyiv. Two people were killed, including a teenager, and at least five others were wounded, among them a child. The strikes hit a warehouse in the Sviatoshynskyi district and a non‑residential building in the Darnytskyi district, igniting fires that emergency crews fought for hours.
The attack occurred just hours after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv to announce a new EU‑Ukraine drone‑production partnership. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram, “Two people have been killed in Kyiv as a result of an enemy attack.”
In response, Ukrainian forces reported a drone strike on Russia’s Engels‑2 air base in Saratov. The same period also saw the resignation of Ukraine’s defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov and a scheduled visit by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, underscoring the heightened political and military stakes surrounding the ongoing conflict.
