Kyiv bombing kills eight, triggers Crimea blackout

Russian air strikes on Ukraine’s capital overnight killed at least eight people – seven in Kyiv and one in the surrounding Bucha region – and injured 24 others, according to Kyiv’s military administration head Timur Tkachenko. The attacks struck high‑rise residential blocks in the Darnytskyi and Pontilski districts, causing building collapses and fires. Tkachenko said “the enemy is firing ballistic missiles.”

At the same time, a Ukrainian strike on energy infrastructure on the Crimean peninsula cut power to Sevastopol, prompting governor Mikhail Razvozhaev to declare a state of emergency, urge residents to conserve battery power, and suspend tram services for the morning. The blackout follows weeks of energy attacks on the Russian‑occupied region, which has already faced fuel shortages and frequent outages.

The raid is described as the most intense assault on Kyiv since the war began, following a week that saw 30 deaths and nearly 100 injuries from previous Russian bombings.
