Kyiv hit by heavy Russian missile and drone strikes, damaging ambulance fleet and prompting expert warning

Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv, using dozens of missiles and attack drones. The strike hit an ambulance centre, destroying or severely damaging about 25 ambulances and damaging four nearby buildings. Nine people were killed and around 30 injured in the assault.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine is facing a critical shortage of air‑defence systems, noting that only one of the incoming ballistic missiles was intercepted. Experts said the intensity of the attacks may signal Russian weakness, citing shortages of Patriot missile‑defence ammunition and other air‑defence assets. The Russian offensive involved roughly 35 missiles (including 27 ballistic) and 185 drones, while Ukraine has struggled to protect critical infrastructure.

In retaliation, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck a Russian refinery in Saratov and a Wildberries logistics centre in Samara, causing fires at those sites.
