Kyle Juszczyk appeals NFL fine for touchdown celebration
San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk has been fined $14,926 by the NFL for a touchdown celebration following a game against the Miami Dolphins. The league ruled that Juszczyk’s gesture, which involved tipping his head back as if drinking from his thumb, constituted an “offensive demonstration” that imitated chugging a beer.
Juszczyk has appealed the fine, arguing that the gesture was not an imitation of alcohol consumption but rather a reference to his nickname, “Juice.” He pointed out the perceived hypocrisy of the league’s decision, noting that the NFL maintains massive sponsorship deals with alcohol brands, such as Bud Light, and that beer branding is prominently displayed in stadiums and during broadcasts.
Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce supported Juszczyk’s stance, calling the ruling “hypocrisy at the highest level.” Juszczyk is also facing a separate $20,033 penalty from Week 1 regarding the illegal use of a helmet, which will be addressed in an upcoming hearing.
