Kyoto launches free month‑long summer homework support week for families

Kyoto Research Park (KRP) is hosting a free "Summer Homework Support Week" from July 23 to August 25 2026 at the Ajiawashi food‑culture museum. The program, aimed at elementary‑school children and their parents, offers hands‑on food‑culture activities, simple cooking demos and science‑based food experiments to help students complete summer assignments and explore food heritage.

In addition to the organized event, popular DIY kitchen experiments such as building a "density tower" with water, oil and ice are being promoted online as easy home projects that reinforce the same scientific concepts taught at the museum. Both the public program and the home‑based activities aim to stimulate curiosity and support children’s summer research projects.

The event is free to attend, though some sessions require prior registration, and it highlights Kyoto’s traditional cuisine and UNESCO‑recognized Japanese food culture.
