Kyoto tea houses promote seasonal matcha sweets

Traditional tea houses in Kyoto and Uji are highlighting seasonal matcha-based offerings.

In Gion, Saryo Tsujiri, a confectionery established by the historic Tsujiri lineage, continues to serve its signature matcha parfaits. The establishment, which opened its sweets shop in 1978 to promote tea culture, features popular items such as the Tokusen Tsujiri Parfait, which layers matcha ice cream, jelly, and homemade red beans.

Meanwhile, Itoh Kyuemon in Uji has announced a new autumn menu starting September 16, 2026. The seasonal lineup includes a ‘Genji Monogatari’ autumn matcha sweets plate, featuring eight different items such as matcha roll cake and mini parfaits inspired by classical literature. Additionally, the shop is offering a Matcha Mont Blanc Parfait, combining chestnut cream and chestnut skins with matcha jelly and marron ice cream.
