Kyoto to host major traditional craft and art exhibitions in 2026
Kyoto Prefecture will host several cultural events in late 2026 focused on traditional arts and regional heritage.
In Kyoto City, the 73rd Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition will take place at the Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. from October 7 to October 12, 2026. The exhibition features 319 award-winning works across categories such as ceramics, textiles, lacquerware, metalwork, and doll making. The event includes special presentations by Living National Treasures and workshops to demonstrate traditional techniques.
In the Tango region, the Tango Art & Culture Festival 2026 will be held at the Tango Open Center from September 10 to September 28, 2026. Organized by the Tango Textile Industrial Association, the festival showcases award-winning works from the Tango Art and Craft Exhibition, including oil paintings, Japanese paintings, photography, and Noh masks. The program also features community workshops, music performances, and tea ceremonies to promote regional culture and textile traditions.
