Kyoto art and traditional craft exhibitions 2026
Overview
Kyoto is set to host several major art and traditional craft exhibitions in late 2026.
In September, the Tango Art & Culture Festival will take place at the Tango Open Center, showcasing oil paintings, Japanese paintings, photography, and Noh masks. This festival, organized by the Tango Textile Industrial Association, includes community workshops and tea ceremonies.
In October, the 73rd Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition will be held at Kyoto Takashimaya S.C., featuring 319 award-winning works in categories such as ceramics, textiles, and lacquerware, with presentations by Living National Treasures.
Following these events, the CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto will be held from November 6 to November 8 across three temples in the Nishijin area: Myoken-ji, Honpo-ji, and Myokaku-ji. This edition features 33 exhibitors, an increase from the previous year, and includes the fair’s first international participants from Melbourne, Australia. The program combines contemporary art, antique art, and traditional crafts with cultural activities like tea ceremonies and garden tours.
