Athens: Mitsotakis inaugurates Kerameikos upgrades

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the inauguration of infrastructure upgrades at the Kerameikos archaeological site in Athens. The project aims to improve accessibility and highlight the unique sculptures and landscape of the area, which connects ancient history with the present day.

During the event, Mitsotakis emphasized a national strategy to promote Greece's cultural wealth, noting that Athens is being transformed into a self-sufficient tourist destination rather than just a transit point for the islands. He highlighted that over 100 projects in Attica are being funded with a total of 350 million euros, many of which are supported by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. He noted these projects were completed within scheduled timelines without losing any allocated funds.

In a separate political context, PASOK's island policy chief Giannis Polychronakos criticized the government, claiming the Prime Minister's recent focus on Kastellorizo is a pre-election tactic and that there has been a lack of genuine island policy for seven years. Polychronakos proposed specific incentives for small islands, including business loans, tax exemptions for new businesses, and subsidies for schooling to support local populations.
