Kyriakos Mitsotakis addresses SEV General Assembly on Greek economic growth
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed the SEV General Assembly in Athens, focusing on the theme 'Productive Greece in a Changing Europe.' He highlighted Greece's economic progress, noting that the country has transitioned from a period of decline to one of growth, with a development rate significantly higher than the European average.
Mitsotakis emphasized that this progress occurred despite consecutive crises, including migration issues, the pandemic, and energy crises. He noted that investments have more than doubled in recent years, exports are increasing, and Greece is experiencing the fastest debt reduction among OECD countries.
Regarding the energy crisis, the Prime Minister stated that Greece's national response has been effective, allowing the country to borrow at lower rates than four of the G7 members. He also proposed that the European Commission consider a pan-European response to the crisis, suggesting the use of excess inflation-driven revenues for targeted, temporary measures, including immediate electricity subsidies for specific sectors.
