Kyriakos Mitsotakis announces fuel relief and political strategy
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced a series of measures to combat the rising cost of living and fuel prices ahead of the winter season. The proposed interventions include direct action on heating oil prices, an extension of diesel subsidies, and the reintroduction of a profit margin cap in coordination with the country’s two refineries.
Politically, Mitsotakis emphasized the narrative of self-sufficiency for his party, New Democracy. He asserted that New Democracy is the only party offering a viable governing alternative, claiming that opposition parties are preoccupied with competing for second place and refusing potential coalitions.
Recent polling data from MARC and MRB suggests New Democracy maintains a lead, with estimated voter support ranging between 29% and 31%. Additionally, approximately half of the surveyed citizens believe the government's recent economic pledges will be fulfilled.
