Kyriakos Mitsotakis discusses Greece-US ties and domestic political challenges
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed several domestic and international issues during his Sunday review. Domestically, he highlighted the upgrade of the ‘Miltos Tendoglou’ Municipal Sports Center in Grevena.
On the international stage, Mitsotakis emphasized the strengthening of Greece-US relations following the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Athens. He noted that the relationship has expanded into defense, security, energy, shipping, and technology. He positioned Greece as a pillar of stability and a bridge between Europe, the US, the Middle East, and the Gulf. A key focus remains energy cooperation, specifically the Vertical Corridor, which aims to establish Greece as a natural gas hub for the European market using American LNG.
Politically, Mitsotakis faces renewed questions regarding the leadership of the New Democracy party. Amidst polling that places the party around 30%, discussions have resurfaced concerning potential leadership changes if the party fails to secure more than 25% in the upcoming spring elections. This comes as the political landscape shifts with the presence of new political actors and ongoing energy crises.
