Greece to advance Greece-Cyprus electrical interconnection project

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis announced that Greece will soon proceed with the electrical interconnection project between Greece and Cyprus. Working in cooperation with France, Greece intends to license the project and issue the necessary NAVTEX for the research and laying of the subsea cable. The project is classified as a Project of Common Interest and is partially funded by the European Union. Gerapetritis emphasized that the interconnection will end the energy isolation of Cyprus and enhance the resilience of the European energy market.

Regarding the project's route, the Minister clarified that the cable path is located dozens of miles south of Turkish maritime zones, leaving no reason for a re-routing. He maintained that the interconnection is a European project that should not be obstructed by any country.

On the subject of Greece-Turkey relations, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister Gerapetritis both reaffirmed that while Greece maintains open channels of communication and a structured dialogue with Ankara, it will not make concessions on its national positions. Mitsotakis emphasized that International Law is the only institutional framework for resolving differences with Turkey, stressing that meaningful dialogue cannot coexist with unilateral actions that violate international legality.
