Kyriakos Mitsotakis urges EU joint action on energy costs at MED9

At the MED9 summit in Split, Croatia, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for unified European initiatives to address rising energy costs and inflationary pressures. He emphasized the need to support households and businesses while maintaining fiscal stability and sustainability.

Mitsotakis engaged in direct discussions with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to advocate for greater fiscal flexibility. He requested exceptions in fiscal calculations for temporary state measures intended to shield citizens from the energy crisis. Additionally, the Prime Minister addressed the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework, stating that the EU budget must match the Union's ambitions.

Regarding migration, Mitsotakis welcomed the European Commission's support for a Greek proposal to establish a European emergency mechanism to manage increased migration flows, the instrumentalization of migration, and hybrid threats.
