Kyriakos Mitsotakis seeks to enforce discipline after controversial government statements

The Greek government, led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is reportedly moving to enforce stricter discipline following a series of controversial statements by government officials. These remarks, which have been criticized for appearing out of touch with the public's struggles regarding the cost of living, fuel prices, and housing, have created concerns regarding political cohesion as the pre-election period approaches.

Specific incidents cited include MP Spyros Koulkoudinas suggesting citizens use public transport if they cannot afford fuel, and comments by Minister Tsiaras regarding increased road traffic indicating available consumer funds. Additionally, remarks by Adonis Georgiadis toward a journalist and statements regarding the Kasos issue have contributed to the perceived lack of unity.

Internal criticism has also emerged from within the Prime Minister's own circle, with Dora Bakoyanni calling for an end to ‘phenomena of arrogance’ in the government and Kostas Bakoyannis criticizing the administration's public image. In response, Mitsotakis has emphasized the need for all officials to remain ‘measured and consistent’ during cabinet meetings.
