Kyrie Irving cleared for Mavericks return after 19-month ACL injury
Kyrie Irving has announced he is cleared to play without physical restrictions following a 19-month absence due to a torn ACL in his left knee. The 34-year-old veteran guard, who suffered the injury in March 2025, spoke at the Dallas Mavericks' preseason media day, stating he is ready to return to the court and expressing confidence in his ability to lead the team.
Irving's return coincides with a period of significant transition for the Mavericks. The franchise has undergone major leadership changes, including the appointment of Masai Ujiri as team president and Dusty May as head coach. The roster also features rookie standout Cooper Flagg, who has become a central figure in the team's long-term plans.
While Irving expressed his love for Dallas and the city, he addressed ongoing trade speculation and the potential disparity in age between himself and the team's younger core. He noted that while his future in Dallas is a “collaborative effort,” his current focus is on leadership, communication, and helping the team build something new after a difficult previous season.
