Kyushu-themed exhibitions attract crowds in Tokyo and Kitakyushu

The "Daikyushu Exhibition" (大九州展) is being held at the Tobu Department Store in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from July 29 to August 4, 2026. The event showcases food and crafts from the seven Kyushu prefectures, including premium beef bentōs, regional sweets, specialty drinks, and traditional pottery such as Imari ware and Satsuma kiriko glass. Visitors can sample items like Kumamoto’s Akabu steak bento, Miyazaki beef chirashi, Kagoshima seafood bento, and Amami black sugar shochu, as well as purchase souvenirs and enjoy themed desserts.

Meanwhile, the "Mukai no Dougu Exhibition" (むかしのどうぐ展) is on display at the Kitakyushu City Kiyase Memorial Museum in Kitakyushu until August 30. The show presents around 40 historic tools ranging from Edo‑era fire‑boxes and wall‑mounted telephones to Showa‑period household printers. Admission is free, though a modest entry fee applies for adults and students. A workshop on traditional gariban printing, led by local researcher Ryoko Komatsu, is scheduled for August 22.
