L3Harris awarded $139 million US Navy submarine contract

L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a $139 million contract by the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command to provide Low-Profile Masts (LPM) for Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines.

These masts are designed to replace traditional hull-penetrating periscopes with telescoping arms. The systems feature high-definition visible and infrared imaging, offering 360-degree visibility and enhanced sensor capabilities to improve submarine stealth and situational awareness. L3Harris will serve as the prime contractor and design agent, providing engineering support for the LPM Type 20 and Type 24 systems through fleet delivery.
