L3Harris secures $6 billion THAAD propulsion contract and expands missile component production
L3Harris Technologies has secured a major contract from Lockheed Martin valued at over $6 billion to expand propulsion production for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system. The seven-year agreement follows a framework established earlier this year to quadruple production capacity. To meet this demand, L3Harris plans to construct a new facility for THAAD Solid Rocket Boost Motor manufacturing and expand capacity for Liquid Divert and Attitude Control production.
In a separate effort to bolster U.S. munitions capacity, L3Harris has also entered a multi-year agreement with the Naval and Air Warfare Center to increase the production of critical components for the BMG-109 Tomahawk cruise missile. This partnership aims to support a significant ramp-up in production, with goals to eventually reach over 1,000 Tomahawk units annually, up from current levels of approximately 60 per year. L3Harris provides essential components for the program, including the Mk 135 solid propellant rocket motor and explosive fragmentation warheads.
