La Bataille de Gaulle pulls 1.3 million admissions in France as heatwave boosts cinema attendance
The French historical thriller "La Bataille de Gaulle" opened on 3 June with a modest 380,000 admissions in its first week, far below expectations for its €38 million budget. Pathé responded by moving the release of the sequel, "J’écris ton nom", forward to 26 June. From 17 June onward, strong word‑of‑mouth and an unprecedented heatwave that drove audiences to air‑conditioned cinemas caused a rapid rise in attendance, reaching 1.3 million admissions by 1 July. Weekly figures showed a 71 % increase in the fourth week and a 17 % lift after mid‑June. The film’s marketing campaign included a partnership with popular French YouTuber Inoxtag, whose 9.5 million subscribers helped attract younger viewers.
The movie continues to be shown in regional venues. At CGR Montauban Le Paris, a public screening is scheduled for Friday 10 July at 13:30, with tickets priced at €6.40. The film is also featured in the Little Film Festival’s summer programme, which runs until 30 August and includes workshops and family‑friendly events across several French cinemas.
