La Caixa's Más Infancia program supports vulnerable families in Spain
La Caixa’s "Más Infancia" initiative, co‑financed by the European Social Fund Plus, provides comprehensive assistance to families with children living in vulnerable conditions across Spain. The programme, delivered through organisations such as Redes Cooperativa, offers educational reinforcement, psychological care, and social support to break cycles of poverty.
Mothers like Estefanía Villalba, a Venezuelan single parent in Madrid, and Elisabeth Ayala credit the programme for giving their children stability and for creating a supportive network of other parents. Diomarys, a Dominican mother of four, received help after a separation, including psychological counseling for her eldest son and tutoring for her younger children. By 2025 the scheme aims to reach about 8,500 minors, funding 68 projects with more than €48 million allocated through 2029.
The initiative underscores the importance of integrated care, as educators stress that “the goal is to work on all dimensions of a child’s and family’s life, not just isolated aspects.”
