LA Clippers enter rebuilding phase after NBA sanctions and Kawhi Leonard trade
The LA Clippers are entering a period of significant transition following NBA sanctions related to a salary cap investigation involving Kawhi Leonard. As a result of the investigation, the league suspended owner Steve Ballmer and executive Lawrence Frank, and stripped the franchise of five draft picks.
To mitigate the impact of these penalties, the Clippers reached an agreement with the Toronto Raptors to trade Kawhi Leonard for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round picks (2031 and 2033), two second-round picks, and a pick swap. The roster also sees the addition of Rui Hachimura.
Looking toward the future, the Clippers selected Keaton Wagler with the 5th overall pick in the 2026 Draft. The 19-year-old former Illinois player is expected to take on significant responsibilities early in his career as the franchise undergoes a forced rebuilding process.
