La General Hospital project expected to finish by end of 2027
Ghanaian Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced that the €50 million La General Hospital project is progressing steadily and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
The 160-bed facility is designed to expand healthcare services for residents of La and surrounding communities in the Greater Accra Region, helping to ease pressure on existing medical infrastructure. Construction is currently in the civil works phase, with the main concrete structure in place and scaffolding erected.
Of the total €50 million budget, approximately €15 million has been paid to date. The Minister noted that there are currently no payment delays or major challenges hindering construction. To address previous issues with the ‘no-bed syndrome’ in other facilities, the project will prioritize a robust emergency unit, aiming for a minimum capacity of 10 per cent of total beds to be dedicated to emergency care.
