Colombia advances energy and infrastructure projects amid economic shifts
Colombia is implementing several strategic initiatives to bolster its infrastructure and economy. In La Guajira, the government is working to unblock energy projects worth over US$2.5 billion, focusing on solar and wind power to increase national energy supply and mitigate the effects of El Niño. To support local livestock producers facing drought, the regional government is promoting the ‘Forrajes Milagro’ program.
Infrastructure development continues with the Troncal del Magdalena 2 road project, which has reached 45.31% completion. Meanwhile, the city of Pereira has projected an investment of 1.3 trillion pesos for 2027 to aid reconstruction following a recent earthquake.
Economically, Colombian households face rising costs, with the price of traditional meals increasing by 22.4% over the last year due to spikes in vegetable and tuber prices. Experts warn that the El Niño phenomenon could further drive up food and energy costs, potentially adding up to 3.26 percentage points to inflation.
