La Libertad Avanza appoints new leadership for National Congress Library
The ruling party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), has sparked controversy following the appointment of new leadership for the National Congress Library (BCN). The Bicameral Administrative Commission elected Deputy José Peluc as president and lawyer Nahuel Piccoli Fortuny as general coordinating director.
Opposition legislators and workers have raised several allegations regarding the process. They claim the voting procedure was fraudulent and that the previous director, Alejandro Santa, was pressured into resigning. Furthermore, Piccoli Fortuny has faced scrutiny due to a domestic violence complaint, which he described as a “reciprocal preventive measure” involving his father that is currently being addressed by the judiciary.
Additional concerns were raised regarding potential conflicts of interest, noting that Piccoli Fortuny and Senator Enzo Fullone, who was elected as second secretary, are reportedly business partners in a construction company. Labor unions have also expressed alarm over the management of the institution’s significant budget and the potential for political interference in staffing.
