La Palma faces delays in youth subsidies and new student aid
In La Palma, the People's Party (PP) has criticized delays regarding subsidies for youth associations. Spokesperson Nieves Hernández warned that associations might not receive funds until the end of the year. While the budget was increased from 80,000 to 120,000 euros to cover additional needs, the PP argues that the delay in processing this modification hinders the ability of these groups to plan and execute cultural, educational, and social activities.
Separately, the Breña Baja City Council has launched study grants for the 2026/2027 academic year. A total of 35,000 euros is allocated for students studying outside of La Palma, offering up to 400 euros for those on the Spanish mainland and 350 euros for those on other islands. Additional academic merit bonuses of 100 euros are available for high-achieving students. Furthermore, approximately 9,439 euros have been set aside for school supplies for local students.
