La Palma road project enters new public consultation phase

The Canary Islands Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility has reopened the public information and consultation period for the LP-2 road variant project between El Remo and La Zamora in Fuencaliente, La Palma. Interested parties, including affected public administrations, have 30 business days to submit allegations, observations, or inquiries.

The project aims to improve connectivity between the municipalities of Los Llanos de Aridane and Fuencaliente, addressing long-standing resident demands for better access to coastal agricultural and tourism facilities. This infrastructure is considered essential for the recovery and reconstruction of the island.

The proposed works involve constructing a coastal variant of the LP-2 highway. The plan includes the execution of two 4.8 km unidirectional tunnels, each featuring two lanes. The road platform will be 9 meters wide, consisting of two 3.5-meter lanes, 1-meter shoulders, and 0.75-meter sidewalks on each side. This specific option was selected from several studied alternatives due to its impact profile.
