Bolivia announces IMF-related funding and major infrastructure investments
Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz Pereira has announced significant economic and developmental measures for the country. A major agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to inject between $6 billion and $7 billion into the economy through multilateral organizations, including the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. This initiative aims to address declining international reserves and fiscal pressures.
In terms of regional development, the President announced an initial investment of approximately Bs 3,000 million for Tarija, focusing on sanitation, roads, health, and education infrastructure. Additionally, Paz teased a forthcoming announcement in Santa Cruz regarding plans to increase the nation's energy capacity through the development of hydrocarbon resources.
At the departmental level, the Santa Cruz government has promulgated its 2027 Annual Operating Budget (POA) of Bs 1,463 million, prioritizing social programs and a 70% reduction in floating debt. Meanwhile, the national government has allocated Bs 8.3 million for irrigation projects in Oruro to benefit 766 families.
