La Paz health authorities report Coxsackie and influenza cases in children

Health authorities in the La Paz department of Bolivia have reported an increase in respiratory and viral infections among children. The Departmental Health Service (SEDES) confirmed 11 cases of the Coxsackie virus, which causes hand, foot, and mouth disease, primarily affecting children under five. While these patients are receiving treatment, officials noted that none have developed severe symptoms.

In addition to Coxsackie, SEDES reported approximately 20,000 cases of influenza among children aged five to 14 in recent weeks. Health officials have advised families to prioritize hand hygiene and food safety, and to avoid self-medication.

In the city of El Alto, the Municipal Health Secretariat reported three suspected cases of the Coxsackie virus. One case was linked to an educational unit in Senkata, while the others were identified in District 4. Authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations and plan to reinforce preventive measures in schools and childcare centers to curb potential spread.
