La Plata officials remodel City Bell facility into police base
The Municipality of La Plata is proceeding with the remodeling of the City Bell Urban Prevention Guard headquarters to transform it into a new operational base for the Buenos Aires Provincial Police’s Fuerza Barrial de Aproximación (FBA). Located at the intersection of 19 and 472, the project has an official budget of $66,475,882.
The renovation includes the construction of separate dormitories for men and women, administrative offices, a kitchen, and a specialized armory for storing police weaponry. Exterior works will involve repairing the patio, installing a motorcycle parking cover, and adding a new access gate.
In response to the project, opposition members of the La Plata Deliberative Council, led by Guillermo Bardón of the La Libertad Avanza bloc, have requested formal reports regarding the works. Council members have raised concerns regarding the security protocols for the new armory, specifically questioning who will be responsible for the custody of the weapons and the institutional chain of responsibility for such a facility within a municipal building.
