La Pobleta served as a refuge for Manuel Azaña

During the Spanish Civil War, between November 1936 and October 1937, Valencia served as the political center of the Second Republic. Due to security and space requirements, government authorities were housed in various private properties outside the city.

La Pobleta, an 18th-century estate located in the municipality of Serra within the Sierra Calderona, was used by President Manuel Azaña as a place for rest and writing. While not his primary office for directing the presidency, the estate provided a discreet environment near the Cartuja de Portaceli.

Local historians note that several homes in Serra and Nàquera were seized to accommodate political leaders to ensure dispersion and safety. Azaña reportedly alternated his stays between Valencia and other locations, such as Barcelona, making a precise reconstruction of his daily routine at the estate difficult.
