Spanish Republican government locations during Civil War
Overview
During the Spanish Civil War, various private estates in the Valencia region served as residences and strategic locations for the Second Republic leadership.
Between November 1936 and October 1937, the La Pobleta estate in Serra was used by President Manuel Azaña as a discreet location for rest and writing. Local historians indicate that homes in Serra and Nàquera were seized to house political leaders to ensure safety and dispersion.
As the conflict neared its end, the El Poblet estate, designated as a Cultural Interest Site, served as the final residence for the Republican government. Under the code name Posición Yuste, the site hosted the executive led by Juan Negrín from February 25 to March 6, 1939, following the fall of Barcelona and efforts to prevent a total surrender.
