Psychiatrist ordered to pay bond in involuntary commitment case
A judge in Santo Domingo Este has imposed coercion measures on psychiatrist Ylsa Emperatriz Quero Cabrera, following allegations of her involvement in the involuntary and forced commitment of engineer and businessman Juan Francisco López Chapor.
The measures include a RD$50,000 economic guarantee, periodic reporting to authorities, and a travel ban. The court rejected the Public Ministry's request for preventive detention, a decision influenced by the fact that Quero Cabrera is six weeks pregnant.
According to the prosecution, Quero Cabrera allegedly recommended that Nancy Estervina de Jesús, the victim's wife with whom he was undergoing a divorce, arrange his entry into a mental health center without his consent. The incident reportedly involved a violent abduction at a construction company in the Alma Rosa II sector, where individuals allegedly used force, handcuffs, and an unidentified injection to subdue the engineer before transporting him to a psychiatric facility.
Defense attorneys have contested the charges, arguing there is no direct evidence linking the doctor to the events and questioning the validity of statements made by the victim's spouse. The investigation into the circumstances of the irregular admission remains ongoing.
