La Vega, Dominican Republic Declares Municipal Celebration for 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games Torch Arrival
The municipal council of La Vega, Dominican Republic approved Ordinance No. 034‑2026, designating Monday 8 June 2026 as a “Tarde de Regocijo Municipal.” The declaration marks the arrival and passage of the torch for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, which will culminate in Santo Domingo later that year. The city, historically known as the “Ciudad Olímpica Dominicana” and a birthplace of notable athletes since 1937, will host the torch along the “Ruta Wiche García Saleta: la llama de los valores.” Local authorities urged public and private institutions, schools, community groups, and sports and cultural entities to take part in the festivities, emphasizing national identity, integration, and the values of sport.
The celebration is intended to turn the torch’s arrival into a city‑wide party, allowing thousands of residents to partake in an event that highlights La Vega’s longstanding contribution to Dominican sport and its role in the regional multi‑sport competition.
