Labor Day rallies held in Boston and New York City

Labor Day celebrations in Boston and New York City featured large-scale marches and rallies organized by regional labor councils to demonstrate worker solidarity and political influence.

In Boston, the Greater Boston Labor Council led a parade through Copley Square involving various groups, including the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the Boston Teachers Union (BTU), SAG-AFTRA, and the United Auto Workers (UAW). Senator Ed Markey attended the event following his midterm primary victory, stating that the gathering was proof of the power held by working people.

In New York City, the New York City Central Labor Council organized the ‘Our City, Our Fight, Our Future’ rally in Zuccotti Park. Participants marched to Foley Square to honor 9/11 victims and highlight interconnected social issues, including immigration enforcement and women’s rights. Representatives from unions such as 32BJ SEIU, NYSNA, and TWU were among the keynote speakers.
