Labor Day weekend traffic fatalities reported in Mississippi and Ohio

Law enforcement agencies in Mississippi and Ohio reported various traffic incidents and fatalities during the Labor Day weekend enforcement period, which ran from Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7.

In Mississippi, the Highway Patrol investigated 136 crashes and assisted 88 motorists. Two fatal accidents were reported: a man died after striking a tree in Winston County on Saturday, and a woman died following a collision with another vehicle in Hancock County on Sunday. Both victims were Mississippi natives.

In Ohio, the State Highway Patrol reported 12 fatalities across 12 crashes, a significant decrease from the 27 deaths recorded during the same period in 2025. Troopers responded to 502 crashes and made 426 impaired-driving arrests and 70 drug-related arrests. Officials noted that at least one fatal crash was related to operating a vehicle under the influence.
