Labor strikes announced by education workers in Argentina and biochemists in Paraguay
Education assistants in Chubut, Argentina, have announced a 48-hour strike beginning at midnight on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The CTA Autónoma Regional Sureste organized the measure to protest labor and salary violations, including failures to comply with mandatory conciliation, unfulfilled signed agreements, and delays in permanent staff appointments. Workers are also demanding the payment of pending partial positions and the return of deducted wages.
In Paraguay, public sector biochemists have threatened a 72-hour national strike if tripartite negotiations involving the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security do not yield an agreement. The union's demands focus on critical shortages of laboratory supplies and reagents, which have forced patients to travel to Asunción for basic tests, as well as a need for more staff to cover 24-hour shifts. Additionally, professionals are seeking a salary adjustment, noting that wages have been frozen for 14 years.
