Public sector labor strikes in South America

Overview

Labor unrest has emerged across several South American nations involving public sector workers. In Argentina, education assistants in Chubut scheduled a 48-hour strike to protest salary violations, unfulfilled agreements, and delays in staff appointments. Simultaneously, biochemists in Paraguay threatened a 72-hour national strike over laboratory supply shortages, staffing needs for 24-hour shifts, and a request for salary adjustments following a 14-year wage freeze.

In Bolivia, the Confederation of Urban Education Workers announced a 24-hour national strike supported by 31 regional federations. This mobilization targets a government proposal to decentralize public education by transferring the administration of various technical and artistic institutes to regional governments, a move union leaders claim could cause instability within the educational system.
