Labor unions and economic studies project 2027 wage trends

Labor unions and economic studies are projecting wage trends for 2027 in Spain and Portugal. In Spain, the CCOO union has proposed an increase to the minimum wage (SMI) of more than 60 euros per month. This proposal aims to ensure the minimum wage maintains a level equivalent to 60% of the average salary, countering the effects of inflation and rising housing costs. CCOO has also requested regulatory changes to prevent existing salary supplements from neutralizing the impact of the minimum wage hike.

In Portugal, a study by Marsh Portugal anticipates a moderation in income growth, forecasting an average salary increase of 3.3% in 2027, while the median increase is expected to remain below 3%. The report notes that while operational roles saw significant growth recently, other groups experienced much lower averages. The national minimum wage in Portugal is projected to reach 970 euros in 2027, following agreements made during social concertation processes. As the 2027 State Budget discussions approach, both companies and unions are preparing their respective economic demands.
